The Death of Common Sense – Why It’s Fading in Today’s World?

It often feels like there’s a growing disconnect between generations, especially when it comes to values, work ethic, and social norms. A lot of older folks see the younger generation as lacking common sense because they rely more on technology, question traditional ways of doing things, or seem overly sensitive compared to how things were handled in the past. On the flip side, younger people might see the older generation as outdated, resistant to change, or out of touch with modern realities.
A big part of this divide comes from different upbringings. Older generations had to navigate life without instant access to information, which forced them to develop problem-solving skills differently. Younger generations, having grown up with the internet and automation, process things differently—sometimes in ways that seem impractical to older folks.
Another issue is shifting societal norms. What was once considered common sense (like toughing things out, doing things manually, or learning through trial and error) has been replaced by efficiency, convenience, and a different set of priorities.
That said, every generation complains about the next one. It’s a cycle that’s been going on for centuries. The best approach is to try to bridge the gap through mutual understanding rather than assuming one side is entirely right or wrong. What specific examples have you seen that make you feel this way?
